Description

This cognac shines as one of the most noble and purest expression of the Grande Champagne Cognacs. So fine, so elegant so complex, so rich, this wonderful cognac is quite lively in spite of its very old age.

Each year in October, 5th generation owner Christophe Fillioux harvests the Ugni Blanc grapes from his 63 acre vineyard, makes the wine and distills it in his classic alembic stills. After carefully selecting barrels from the cooperage, the young distillate is put to rest for 2 years, absorbing maximum tannins and color.
Then comes the 'secret': day after day, month after month, year after year, Christophe Fillioux, and his father Pascal, can be found in their cellars sniffing, breathing, tasting, making notes, re-tasting, blending, moving barrels, and listening to his cognacs growing older and older. Its like a ballet in wood and darkness where only he can hear the music. The results are just sublime, undeniable proof that Pascal Fillioux well deserves his reputation as 'Magician of Aromas' that the region has given him.

Rated 98/100 Vinous
"One of the benchmark expressions of Cognac, a blend of 50- to 55-year-old eaux-de-vie. This has everything. On the nose, its earthy and autumnal, offering fresh apple peel and dried leaves, yet also incredibly bright. On the palate, its unbelievably complex and exhibits all levels of rancio. One moment theres a gush of fleshy tropical and citrus fruit, the next antique furniture varnish, then an exotic bazaar of spices. Meanwhile, throughout theres an underlying note of evergreen forest. The profound finish stays with you for what feels like hours.

La Revue du Vin de France (The French Wine Review) describes it: "The colour is deep amber with a superb flavour of prune heralding its prestigious origins. Rich on the palate, complex in flavour and graceful in taste, it has a typical savour of noble rancio Cognacs, with its hints of old rhum, spices, vanilla and leather. Years and years of maturity have allowed this Cognac to combine all these qualities in a remarkable mix."

It's creamy and appetizing, offering some notes of dried and jammy fruit, with the finest rancio aromas. Leather, cigar box fragrances and toasted chocolate, liquorice and toffee. A ery long finish with notes of honeyed and peppered spices coming through. There are a world of the aromas. A great cognac to meditate. Exceptional drinking.

This precious liquid is presented in a smoky blue velvet box with gold foil branding and a protective acetate sleeve.

The purest nobless and distinction of a Grande Champagne.
