Yoichi malts are described as bold and strong with refined peaty notes and smokiness. The sea breeze from the Ishikari Bay delivers a briiny hint to the whisky during maturation.
This 'Grand' edition of Nikka Yoichi whisky has been crafted to enhance the pleasant peaty and woody notes. Along with the smokiness originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation, this non-chill filtered bottling delivers a rich mouthfeel followed by savoury maltiness.
Yoichi Distillery is Nikka's first distillery built in 1934. The founder Masataka Taketsuru, known as the father of Japanese whisky, is the first Japanese who crossed the sea to master whisky-making in Scotland. He chose the town of oichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland.
