The Nikka Grande whiskies are a special edition of Nikka's signature Miyagikyo single malt, which has been crafted to enhance the pleasant sherry notes and woodiness. Along with fruitiness and estery hints, this non-chill filtered bottling delivers a rich mouthfeel followed by a pleasant bittersweet aftertaste.
Miyagikyo Distillery is Nikka's second distillery built in 1969. The founder Masataka Taketsuru, known as the father of Japanese Whisky is the first Japanese who crossed the sea to master whisky-making in Scotland. He chose a valley surrounded by forests in the Miyagi prefecture, a different environment from the Yoichi distillery, to have a wider variety of whisky flavours. Miyagikyo malts are distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam and its style is described as elegant and fruity.
